Round-table Discussion on Exit Programs

On October 27, 2015 MARTA organized an exchange of experiences event in the Ministry of Welfare of the Republic of Latvia as part of the European Commission's project “Safety Compass - Signposting Ways to Escape Trafficking” activities. The event was organised as a Round Table discussion and audience involved mainly NGO and state representatives. The main emphasis was on acquiring knowledge from European experts from other countries in order to develop functioning exit programs for women that have been involved in prostitution.

Director of MARTA Ms Iluta Lāce presented the main conclusions and recommendations that have been derived from the project Safety Compass. A representative of the European Women's Lobby Ms Pierette Pape introduced audience to the different models of exit programmes that have been developed in other EU member states.

British model was presented by a researcher Ms Sarah Priest. Mr Roman Krolov as a representative of a support organisation for women “Eluliin” that is based in Tallinn introduced support programmes that exist in Estonia.

A representative of organization “Freedom 61” Ms Lysette Klop shared her experience of owning a cafe in Riga that offers support for women involved in prostitution.
