
Iluta Lāce, director of the MARTA Centre participated in the final conference “New social assistance schemes to promote income generating opportunities for most vulnerable households” (Tashkent, Chirchik, Kibray, Syrdarya district – Uzbekistan) on 19th June in Tashkent.
MARTA has extensive experience in implementing projects for improvement of life qualities of women and children in Uzbekistan in close partnership of Formaper – Agency of the Milan Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Craft & Agriculture (Italy) and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia since 2009.
The project, implemented by the Consortium led by Formaper (Italy), and includes Women’s Committee of Uzbekistan, Social Innovation Fund (Lithuania), and Women for Dialogue and Education (Spain), aims to foster positive economic impact and livelihood at community level by strengthening the capacity of the civil society organizations and selected mahalla institutions so that to ensure social reintegration of vulnerable groups of population such as women, youth, and low income families, by assisting them to create their own businesses, thus becoming economically independent.
The conference not only introduced to the results of the project financed by the European Union within the Institutional Building and Partnership Programme (IBPP) and discussed further sustainability and partnerships, but also UN post 2015 development agenda, The conference gathered heads and representatives of international organizations, diplomatic missions, public institutions and non-governmental organizations. Edgars Bondars, Ambassador of Latvia to Uzbekistan emphasized Latvia’s presidency within EU commitment to women’s economic empowerment, gender equality for post 2015 global development agenda.
