Resource Centre for Women MARTA requests that all the Members of the Parliament stop violation of women’s human rights, which is currently being done by trying to adopt laws and regulations on criminalizing abortion

4th October, Riga

To the Speaker of the Parliament
Mr. Marek Kuchcinski,

Resource Centre for Women MARTA requests that all the Members of the Parliament stop violation of women’s human rights, which is currently being done by trying to adopt laws and regulations on criminalizing abortion.

Abortion is always a difficult choice for a woman. Nevertheless, the final decision belongs to a woman as it is her life and body. Her body does not belong to the State. She knows best whether she can or cannot take the responsibility for taking care of a child, raising it and providing all the necessary things for a child. If a woman decides to have an abortion, the State must support her decision and provide safe conditions for that procedure, not criminalizing or otherwise punishing or shaming women for that choice.

Blaming women for their decision, holding them responsible and punishing women for having an abortion is a violation of human rights to dignity.

Democracy cannot be built on pain and suffering of half of the society – WOMEN, by ignoring their basic human rights. Women are owners of their own bodies!

Poland, once you inspired thousands and millions of people to stand again Soviet regime and gain their independence. We still believe that democracy has not been lost in Poland. Let's stand together for women rights to decide for their bodies. Let's stand together for democratic values. Poland, have you forgot Solidarność?

We express solidarity with women in Poland and we request that the Parliament accepts and shows that women’s human rights are valued and we ask that the Members of the Parliament stop promoting discriminatory laws!

With Solidarność,

Iluta Lace
