International conference HOW TO STOP DOMESTIC VIOLENCE?

The Resource Centre for Women MARTA together with the Parliament of the Republic of Latvia – Saeima, and with the financial support of Society Integration Foundation will launch international conference “How to stop domestic violence?” to evaluate what has been achieved in fight against domestic violence and to explore the possible solutions for already identified issues on 26th of September 2016.

The conference will be opened by the MP Ms Inese Libina-Egnere, the minster of Welfare Mr Janis Reirs and the Head of the resource centre MARTA Ms Iluta Lace.

Firstly, the Head of Social and Employment Matters Committee of Saeima, Ms Aija Barca and the members of Human Rights and Public Affairs Committee of Saeima, Mr Boriss Cilevics together with judge of Riga Regional court, Ms Ilze Celmina and the Head of Prevention department of National Police, Mr. Andis Rinkevics will talk about what has been achieved to put the end to domestic violence in Latvia. The Global Rights for Women Program Director Helen Rubenstein will share international experience when it comes to fighting domestic abuse.

The second part of the conference will be dedicated to the challenges and future tasks in eradicating domestic violence in Latvia. The challenges and key issues will be discussed by the Head of Legal Committee of Saeima, Mr. Gaidis Berzin, the Head of Human trafficking and prostitution Unit of the Organised Crime Enforcement Department of the Latvian State Police, Mr. Armands Lubarts and Head of MARTA Social Services Unit, Ms. Irina Frolova. Furthermore, the best practice examples will be shared by Head of CAP Internation, Mr. Gregoire Thery and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipontentiary of the Kingdom of Sweden, Mr. Henrik Landerholm.

The parliamentary secrtary of the Ministry of Interior, Ms. Evika Silina, parliamentary secretary of the Ministry of Welfare, Ms. Karina Korna and the Head of Defense, Internal affairs and Corruption Prevention Committee of Saeima, Mr. Ainars Latkovskis will also participate in the conference.
