International Conference | Safety Compass - Signposting Ways to Escape Trafficking 26/10/2015

Deputy Speaker of the Saeima (Parliament of Latvia) Ms Inese Lībiņa-Egnere together with the Minister of the Interior Mr Rihards Kozlovskis and the Ambassador of the United Kingdom H.E. Sarah Cowely opened the Conference SAFETY COMPASS – SIGNPOSTING WAYS TO ESCAPE TRAFFICKING on 26th October 2015.

The Conference was organized by MARTA in cooperation with the Saeima and took place in the main Saeima building gathering experts from the United Kingdom, Estonia, Sweden and Latvia.

The Conference acted as a working and partnership building platform for different actors committed to reduce human trafficking within the European Union (EU). Experts shared their findings about reducing demand of human trafficking, developing functioning exit programs intended to aid trafficking victims and international practice of support and protection mechanisms.

The main intent of the Conference was to encourage more efficient international referral mechanism and effective measures to fight human trafficking.

Conference was organised with the financial support from the Prevention of and Fight against Crime Programme European Commission - Directorate-General Home Affairs and formed a platform for discussion involving decision takers and both State and NGO representatives.
